What changed

OpenAI's Sora announcement now carries a notice stating that the Sora product is no longer available as of April 26, 2026. Its Help Center also publishes a discontinuation notice. Anyone arriving through an older launch article should read the current notice before planning a project or looking for a subscription.

This article was checked on October 19, 2026. It corrects the former AnimFX placeholder headline about a real-time 8K launch. That claim was unsupported and has been removed. We are not reporting a new Sora launch, an active subscription offer or an available production service.

Check your own account records

The official Help Center is the source for account-specific information about exports, retained data, credits and refunds. Read the current notice directly because those arrangements can change and may depend on when or how you used the service. Do not assume an old tutorial describes what is possible now.

If you already downloaded finished work, inventory the actual files you control. Identify which project timelines depend on a remote generation history, shared URL or editable asset. A playable export and the ability to recreate its source are different things; document the difference before promising a revision.

Rebuild around portable assets

For a replacement workflow, start with the brief rather than trying to reproduce a product name. Save the approved shot description, any reference images you are allowed to use, the output format and the continuity requirements. Those inputs can form a new trial across currently accessible services.

Keep a local copy of the assets you need for delivery and an organized record of permissions. If a campaign depends on recurring subjects, create a reference pack and a shot ledger. The goal is to make the next tool replaceable without losing the reasoning behind the work.

What remains uncertain

This notice does not tell us how well another generator will reproduce a particular Sora output. It also does not establish future product plans. Treat speculation about a return, replacement or new access route as unconfirmed unless OpenAI publishes it.

For a live project, test a replacement on a short sequence and confirm access in your region before scheduling production. If an original asset is unavailable, tell the client what can be retained and what must be rebuilt. That is more useful than substituting one model name in an old production estimate.
